TASTING NOTES

Production

Although the current owners, descendants of the Ricci family, settled here in 1941, the history of Villa Pandolfa goes back a long way. As early as the 1700s, oil, honey and, of course, wine were produced here. Wine made from what was once called Sanginese and today has a much better-known name: Sangiovese. We are in Fiumana di Predappio, in the province of Forlì-Cesena, a historic area in Emilia Romagna for the cultivation of this grape. Today, Pandolfa owns 40 hectares of vineyards, situated on hills between 150 and 400 metres in height and with soils rich in calcareous marl. In recent years, the estate has made significant progress in the field of environmental sustainability and, since 2018, has begun the process of converting to organic farming. A distinctive feature of the bottles is the reference to the Renaissance in the label designs, combined with a colour palette reminiscent of the 1950s, making them instantly recognisable and turning them into small works of art. Federico Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore is a red wine from Emilia-Romagna made from 95% Sangiovese and other native Romagna grape varieties; the vineyards are located in Fiumana di Predappio, cultivated at altitudes between 80 and 150 metres on soils predominantly composed of brown calcareous clay. The must spends 15 days in contact with the skins for maceration; this is followed by malolactic fermentation and 6 months of ageing in stainless steel and 2 months in the bottle. Organoleptic Characteristics

With a brilliant ruby red colour, the nose is characterised by notes of violet and rose alternating with vegetal notes and hints of small red fruits. On the palate, it is fresh, easy to drink and has good length.

Occasion and Pairing

A wine that can easily be enjoyed every day; we highly recommend it paired with traditional regional cured meats.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C.

THE WINERY

Pandolfa

Among hills covered with vines, cherry and olive trees, in the village of Fiumana di Predappio, in Emilia-Romagna, stands the majestic Villa Pandolfa, built in 1700 by the Marchesi Albicini. It was here, in the 1940s, that the Ricci family started a flourishing agricultural business that places it among the most renowned producers of Sangiovese. Surrounding the Pandolfa estate are some 40 hectares of estate-owned vineyards, lying on soft hills all between 150 and 400 metres above sea level, guaranteeing a breezy climate. The soil from which they draw nourishment is characterised by a calcareous composition, rich in mineral salts, with clays of different colours and densities, ranging from grey-brown to ochre. Recently, the Pandolfa farm has also decided to make a commitment to environmental sustainability, converting much of its production according to organic farming principles. After the harvest, an ageing period of at least 6 months follows in the Pandolfa wine cellar to ensure the right full flavour for the important reds, whites and rosés. After this time, Pandolfa wines are transferred into characteristic bottles, bearing images of works of art. It is a reminder of both the Renaissance and the 1950s, symbolising the producer's connection with art and history. Inside Villa Pandolfa, in fact, splendid frescoes and even a room in which the poet Giosuè Carducci used to stay are still preserved. Name and address of producer/distributor: Pandolfa - Via Pandolfa, 35 47016, Fiumana (FC). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
