Giuseppe Contratto founded his winery in 1867, when he began making wine from Moscato grapes from the Monferrato area, producing one of the first Italian sparkling wines refermented in the bottle. Also in those years the Contratto family began the construction of the historic cellar, which was then completed in the twentieth century. It was around 1910 that Contratto wines began to conquer foreign markets, becoming synonymous with prestige and quality in the world of sparkling wines, so much so that the company became the official supplier of the Vatican, the Belgian royal house and the royal family of Savoy.
