TASTING NOTES

Production

Leone d'Almerita is a Sicilian white wine made from 40% Catarratto, 19% Pinot Bianco, 23% Sauvignon, 14% Traminer Aromatico and 4% Moscato. The grapes from these hills are grown at altitudes of between 600 and 900 metres above sea level, where they experience significant temperature variations between day and night; these temperature fluctuations concentrate the sugars and promote the development of the freshness and aromatic character typical of this wine. The harvest is carried out by hand by expert winegrowers, who remove any bunches that are damaged or not perfectly ripe. After the grapes are harvested, fermentation and ageing take place in stainless steel tanks for 4 months on the lees. E=316 kJ/100 ml - 76 kcal/100 ml

Organoleptic Characteristics

Bright straw-yellow in colour, the nose reveals the various aromas resulting from the skilful blend of different grape varieties, with notes of white peach, grapefruit, green apple and tropical fruits. On the palate, it is smooth, rich, intense and full-bodied, with a finish reminiscent of very ripe fruit.

Occasion and Pairing

A perfect everyday wine, ideal with fish and shellfish.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 8–10°C.

THE WINERY

Tasca d'Almerita

The history of the Tasca d'Almerita winery has its roots in the 19th century, when brothers Lucio and Carmelo Mastrogiovanni Tasca purchased 1,200 hectares in the Regaleali district in Sicily. Even then, techniques considered cutting-edge not only in the Sicilian wine scene but throughout Italy were being used. The immense winemaking heritage, handed down for eight generations, is now under the leadership of Alberto and Giuseppe Tasca, who carry on the winery always respecting tradition but with an eye to the future. Each of the five estates belonging to the Tasca d'Almerita estate is managed with extreme care and rigor, thanks to the support of a conspicuous team of collaborators. What makes Tasca d'Almerita's wines so special is the vast spread of its vineyards between the island of Salina, land of Mavasia, across to the slopes of Mount Etna. These are some of the most beautiful places in Sicily, and also the most dedicated to wine production. Terroirs with different characteristics ensure that each of the different labels of red and white have distinctive notes, which are recognised and appreciated worldwide. Name and address of producer/distributor: Tasca d'Almerita - Via dei Fiori, 13, 90129 Palermo (PA). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
