The Ferrucci winery was founded in 1932, extending for 15 hectares in the hills of one of the most blessed wine zones of Romagna. Right from the start, Ferrucci decided to make wine entirely from its own grape production, aiming to ensure constant quality and to optimally express the typical characteristics of the land. SANGIOVESE DI ROMAGNA RISERVA DOMUS CAIA is produced from an extremely carefully selection of Sangiovese grapes. The Sangiovese grapes are dried naturally, destemmed, and left to ferment at a controlled temperature in the presence of selected yeasts, with prolonged maceration on the pomace in vitrified cement tanks. Next, the wine spends 12 months in 500-litre barrels and then undergoes réassemblage before 18 months of bottle ageing. Its colour is splendid: a deep, almost impenetrable ruby red. It has thick, intense aromas of black truffle, marasca cherry, stewed plum, and dried rose. In the mouth it is dry, velvety, and harmonious. This is a decidedly powerful yet elegant wine that epitomises an extremely interesting land which is, perhaps, as yet unknown to many. It is perfect for uncorking during a hearty Sunday lunch with a menu based on roasted or braised red meat.
