The Pinot Bianco Riserva Vorberg from Cantina Terlano is a masterpiece of longevity and elegance, considered one of Italy’s most iconic white wines. The grapes come from the steep slopes of Monzoccolo, where the vineyards, situated between 600 and 900 metres, are rooted in porphyritic soils that lend the wine a distinct minerality. The winemaking is masterful: fermentation and subsequent ageing take place for 12 months in large oak barrels, followed by a further rest on the lees, which gives the wine extraordinary complexity without ever overpowering the freshness of the fruit. 100 ml: E=337 kJ/ 81 kcal
In the glass, Vorberg shines with an intense straw-yellow colour and golden highlights. The bouquet is a fascinating interplay of aromas ranging from quince and white peach to more developed notes of aromatic herbs, chamomile and a hint of flint. On the palate, it astonishes with its perfect balance between an imposing, almost creamy structure and a pronounced savouriness that makes the finish seem endless. It is a wine of great character that evolves magnificently over time, revealing an increasingly pronounced spicy and mineral depth as the years go by.
In the kitchen, its substance allows it to complement complex dishes: it is sublime with savoury fish soups, truffle risottos or elaborate white meats such as Ligurian-style rabbit. It also pairs excellently with mature cheeses, where its acidity and persistence cleanse and complete the palate impeccably.
To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a serving temperature of 10/12°C.
