Cantina Tramin’s Gewürztraminer Selida is a tribute to the historic birthplace of this grape variety, the village of Termeno. ‘Selida’, which in the local dialect means ‘small farmstead’, reflects the deep connection with the small local growers. Production involves selecting grapes grown at altitudes between 300 and 500 metres on limestone and clay soils; after gentle pressing, the wine ferments and matures exclusively in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, a technical choice aimed at preserving the absolute purity of the original aromatic profile. In the glass, it glows with an intense, brilliant golden yellow. On the nose, it is a dance of exotic and heady aromas: lychee, orange zest and yellow rose stand out, enveloped by warm notes of sweet spices such as ginger and cinnamon. On the palate, it reveals a full-bodied structure and a pleasant smoothness, well balanced by a fresh vein that lightens the mouthfeel, making it harmonious and never cloying. The aromatic persistence is remarkable, leaving a very pleasant spicy and floral finish.
In the kitchen, Selida shines for its versatility in the most creative pairings. It is the perfect companion for Asian cuisine, particularly curry-based dishes, but it also pairs divinely with smoked fish starters, savoury shellfish and foie gras. For a local pairing, try it with washed-rind or medium-aged blue cheeses, where its aromatic intensity can hold its own against intense and persistent flavours.
To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a serving temperature of 10/12°C.
