If we're talking about Vis Amoris, we're talking about Pigato, the native grape variety of the Ponente Riviera in Liguria that shares aromatic and genetic elements with Vermentino and Timorasso. It grows on rocky terrain in the province of Imperia that rises up 300 to 400 m above the sea. And from the sea this variety inherits marine and savoury notes that, when combined with the floral aromas and softness typical of Pigato, give it an aromatic profile that is unique in the national wine panorama. The folk at the Vis Amoris winery started with a small vineyard and a dream: to communicate the strength of Pigato to the rest of the world. In 2004 their first wine was released and the good results encouraged them to buy more land. They now produce seven different types of monovarietal Pigato from three hectares of vines. Guided by the principle of sustainability and respect for the soil, all work in the vineyard is done by hand. They are especially careful to avoid herbicides and chemical fertilisers. Meticulous work in the wine cellar completes the path that leads to the high quality wines that Vis Amoris now guarantees. But above all, this team is the guardian of a vine and its terroir. Vis Amoris Regis is a table wine made from 100% Pigato grapes harvested in the province of Imperia around mid-September from limestone and clay soils. Hand-picked bunches, selection in the wine cellar and soft pressing. After fermentation, the wine goes through six months of lees stirring in French casks and 24 months of bottle ageing. Straw yellow in colour with green reflections. On the nose, hints of flint and wild herbs. Citrus fruits such as lemon and lime together with notes of green apple, pear, white peach and hints of pineapple. An almond and cream finish. In the mouth it is enveloping, soft and well-structured. Smooth acidity makes it almost creamy with a good savoury and smoky note. A dry Ligurian white to drink every day with friends and family to accompany various dishes. Especially cheeses, cured meats, pasta and risotto dishes, white meats such as veal and pork.
