The Marion company is a small family-run business in Marcellise in the municipality of San Martino Buon Albergo, a 10-minute drive from Verona. The winery is located in a Renaissance villa owned by Count Marioni which dates back to the sixteenth century. Marion, founded in the 1980s by Stefano Campedelli, his wife Nicoletta and his brother Marco, covers about twenty hectares and also includes rented land. The company philosophy is based on taking meticulous care in all phases of wine production, especially managing the vineyards to protect the plants’ natural balance. Marion's signature Valpolicella Superiore is a delicious red wine from Veneto made from Corvina, Rondinella, Croatina and other grapes. Once harvested, part of the grapes are placed in crates that will rest in well-ventilated rooms for a drying period of about 40 days, while another part is harvested and immediately pressed. At the end of fermentation, the resulting wines are aged in small-capacity barrels and Slavonian oak barrels; the two vinification parts rest separately for 30 months before being blended and bottled. In the glass we find a beautiful concentrated ruby colour. The aromas are delicious and intense. Ripe cherry, blackberry, sweet spice and dried leaves. In the mouth, it is beautifully crafted, with silky tannins and excellent freshness adding to its drinkability. Rich and enveloping, it closes long on the sensations perceived on the nose. Wine to share during Sunday lunch. Perfect with roasts and game or mature cheeses.
