The Orsogna winery, founded in 1972, is one of the most important wineries in the production of Abruzzo wines. About 15 years ago, a separate winery was created with the Lunaria project with the aim of producing biodynamic wines that would best enhance the territory of the Chieti hills, within the Maiella Park. Spontaneous fermentation, special care for indigenous varieties and minimal intervention in the vineyard and wine cellar make the Lunaria project the largest Demeter project in Europe.
The Orsogna vineyards extend over the territory of the municipality of the same name and some neighbouring villages. Here, traditional vines, such as Montepulciano and Trebbiano, lie beside indigenous specimens, including pecorino, primitivo, but also pinot grigio, from which an excellent spumante is made. The intense passion dedicated to working the land is transmitted in every grape, an expression of a production system that respects and emphasises the importance of the environment.
At Cantina Orsogna, sulphites are used to a limited extent, calibrated according to the wine to be produced: lower for the Lunaria line, totally absent for the ZeroPuro line. Cantina Orsogna's wines, mostly red, are distinguished by their enviable character and precision and are loved by both the most refined and the simplest palates.
