TASTING NOTES

The Nervi winery is the oldest in the DOC zone of the municipality of Gattinara, in northern Piedmont. Since 2018 it has been owned by Roberto Conterno, heir and manager of the famous Giacomo Conterno winery in the Langhe. The property extends over approximately 24 hectares and located on the slopes of Monte Rosa, an area of volcanic origin with a sandy and clayey consistency, which gives the Nebbiolo unique mineral characteristics. Created from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, Gattinara Vigna Valferana comes from vines grown in the Valferana cru at 320 metres above sea level. Locally in Nebbiolo it is called Spanna, which gives life to austere, deep wines with great personality. After fermentation in wood and concrete tanks, Nervi's Gattinara Vigna Valferana ages for 48 months in oak barrels, followed by 6 months in concrete tanks and a further 6 months in the bottle. It has a light ruby red colour with garnet reflections in the glass. The nose reveals itself with seductive aromas of ripe red fruits intertwined with hints of bitter orange peel and graphite. Notes of balsamic herbs and dark spices complete the bouquet. On the palate it is intense and demanding, supported by a tannic texture and a mineral freshness, with a very long finish. It goes perfectly with aged cheeses or structured game dishes.
