TASTING NOTES

The Nervi winery is the oldest in the DOC zone of the municipality of Gattinara, in northern Piedmont. Since 2018 it has been owned by Roberto Conterno, heir and manager of the famous Giacomo Conterno winery in the Langhe. The property extends over approximately 24 hectares and located on the slopes of Monte Rosa, an area of volcanic origin with a sandy and clayey consistency, which gives the Nebbiolo unique mineral characteristics. The Vigna Molsino Gattinara is made up of 100% Nebbiolo grapes, from vineyards that come exclusively from some plots located in the Molsino cru, which is located at an altitude between 250 and 420 metres above sea level. The vineyards are about 30 years old and are cultivated on a particularly volcanic soil, composed of fine sands and clays rich in iron minerals, deriving from the disintegration of lava rocks. The grapes are fermented in oak vats and in concrete tanks. Then follows a long ageing process for 48 months in large oak barrels. The Gattinara Vigna Molsino di Nervi red is considered a special product in the Piedmontese wine scene and by all the great Nebbiolo enthusiasts. In the glass it has a light ruby red colour with garnet reflections, it expresses all its elegance and finesse of a great mountain Nebbiolo. The aromas reveal notes of medicinal herbs, with balsamic hints, nuances of dried flowers and soft spices, on a field of small red berries. The entrance to the palate is warm and balanced, wrapped in a very well integrated and perceptible tannic texture. The finish is persistent, very long and characterized by a pleasant freshness. Piedmontese red wine perfect for a lunch, recommended in combination with main courses of meat or with cured meats and aged cheeses. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Nervi

Spending his childhood immersed in the greenery of Collio Goriziano as a child, it was natural for Nikolas Juretic to become passionate about viticulture. After enriching his experience and knowledge of the world of oenology by travelling the world, he started making his own wine. A large part of the Nikolas vineyards extend on the eastern slope of Monte Quarin, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Among the rows are important indigenous grapes, such as the Malvasia and Ribolla gialla varieties, and a sublime juice is obtained from the mix. Not far away is also the small Nikolas winery, located in Cormons, in the province of Gorizia, inside an elegant villa. Production is deliberately kept low so that each bottle is unique, the result of research and ageing. From the maceration of the skins in wooden barrels, to the pressing with feet, like in the olden days, to the spontaneous fermentation, without the addition of sulphites, all the processes of grape processing are followed with the utmost attention to detail. The result is a refined white wine with an intense amber citrus aroma. Name and address of producer/distributor: Nikolas - Via Vino della Pace, 31, 34071 Cormons (GO). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
