TASTING NOTES

Production

Etna Rosso Sul Vulcano di Donnafugata originates on the slopes of Etna from Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grapes grown on mineral-rich volcanic soils. The vineyards, located at high altitudes, benefit from strong temperature variations. The harvest is manual and the winemaking takes place in steel with macerations on the skins. The refinement takes place partly in steel and partly in wood, followed by a short rest in the bottle. 100 ml: E=338 kJ/81 kcal

Organoleptic Characteristics

Bright ruby red color. On the nose it expresses notes of small red fruits, cherry and currant, accompanied by floral notes and light spicy and mineral nuances. On the palate it is elegant and fresh, with fine tannins, good flavour and a persistent and harmonious finish.

Occasion and Pairing

Refined and territorial wine, ideal for accompanying white meats, light roasts, Mediterranean dishes and medium-aged cheeses.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a serving temperature of 16/18°C.

THE WINERY

Donnafugata

Donnafugata's wines interpret Sicily and passionately describe its sensory universe. Donnafugata was established in Sicily from the initiative of a family with over 160 years of experience in quality wine. The company was founded in 1983 from the Rallo family’s historic wine cellars in Marsala and in the Contessa Entellina vineyards, in the heart of western Sicily. In 1989, Donnafugata arrived on the island of Pantelleria where it began producing sweet natural wines. The name Donnafugata, literally "woman on the run", refers to the story of Queen Maria Carolina, wife of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, who fled Naples due to the arrival of Napoleon's troops in the early 1800s and took refuge in that part of Sicily where the company vineyards are located today. The face of a woman on each bottle has thus become the symbol of Donnafugata, inspired by the life of Gabriella Rallo, who gave up her job to devote herself to the Contessa Entelline vineyards, a typically male sector, thus becoming a pioneer of Italian female viticulture. With its Sicilian red wines, Donnafugata represents the excellence of Made in Italy, creating a perfect dialogue between art, wine and sustainability. The high quality of these wines is closely linked to a sustainable approach, aimed at safeguarding biodiversity, which is essential for creating authentic wines that are attentive to organic and sustainable viticulture. Name and address of producer/distributor: Donnafugata - Via Sebastiano Lipari, 18, 91025 Marsala (TP). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
