TASTING NOTES

Production

Bertani Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is made from a historic blend of Corvina Veronese and Rondinella, sourced from grapes grown on iron-rich marl-limestone soil. After being selected and harvested, the bunches are placed in traditional fruit rooms without any artificial control of temperature or humidity. They are then left to rest on the ‘arèle’ for 120 days, followed by pressing and vinification. Ageing takes place in medium-to-large Slavonian oak barrels for 7 years, followed by a further year of bottle ageing.

Organoleptic Characteristics

A wine of great character and elegance, it presents an intense red colour in the glass with garnet hues. The nose is dominated by typical notes of plum, cherry and morello cherry, followed by tea leaf, liquorice and spices that emerge thanks to the ageing process. On the palate, there are hints of red berries, softened by gentle spicy notes, in perfect balance with the acidity and tannins.

Occasion and Pairing

Bertani’s Amarone is excellent paired with meat main courses or mature cheeses.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C.

THE WINERY

Bertani

Renowned for the production of excellent Veneto wines, the Bertani estate is located in Quinto di Valpantena, near Verona. The founders, Giovan Battista and Gaetano Bertani, combined enthusiasm and a pioneering spirit to produce fine, bold wines, thanks also to the French techniques of Professor Guyot, as learnt by Gaetano. With its two cellars and vineyards in the Valpantena Classica area and its estates in the Soave and Lake Garda areas, Bertani was one of the first Italian companies to promote the bottling of wine, with investments and advanced viticultural and winemaking production techniques. All while respecting the terroir and local culture. The recognition of excellence dates back to 1923, with the approval of the royal family. The more than 200 hectares of vineyards include the two historic Grezzana wine cellars, for vinification and bottling, and Tenuta Novare, near Arbizzano di Negrar. From these estates come two of Veneto's most sought-after red wines, Valpolicella Classico Superiore and Amarone, icons of the area. But production does not stop there: renowned white wines such as Soave also come from the Bertani estate. Name and address of producer/distributor: Bertani - Via Asiago, 1 - 37023 Grezzana VR. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
