TASTING NOTES

Production

Damijan Podversic is a leading figure in the world of orange wine. On his estate in the Collio Goriziano region, he began working in viticulture at a very young age and quickly achieved success. A pupil of the legendary master Josko Gravner, Damijan produces wines that are an expression of the grapes and this land, characterised by long macerations, in keeping with local traditions. Prelit, which literally means ‘poured’ in Slovenian, is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Fermentation and maceration on the skins take place for around 40 days in truncated-cone-shaped oak vats, followed by ageing for three years in 20–30-hectolitre wooden barrels and a further year of refinement in the bottle.

Organoleptic Characteristics

In the glass, it displays an intense ruby red colour; on the nose, it releases fruity notes of blackcurrants and blueberries, predominant in the Merlot, accompanied on the palate by the elegant and persuasive tannins of the Cabernet Sauvignon, which give the wine a substantial structure and a smooth finish.

Occasion and Pairing

Overall, the Venezia-Giulia Rosso Prelit is an intense, enveloping, full-bodied wine with good balance, excellent for accompanying dishes based on red meat, game and wild game.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C.

THE WINERY

Damijan

Damijan Podversic, supported by his wife Elena, has managed to fulfil his childhood dream of producing great grapes varieties to create a great wine. The most important vineyards of the Damijan winery, in addition to the small parcels scattered in the Collio, are located on the wooded slopes facing south of Monte Calvario, on the outskirts of Gorizia, in an uncontaminated environment that is perfect for growing healthy and tasty grapes. Conceived from Damijan's desire to enhance the old abandoned vineyards on a terroir perfect for viticulture, the winery now has six hectares covered with vineyards, respectful of the ecosystem in which it operates. The viticulture practiced by Damijan is rigorously organic, fully attentive to the balance and health of the plants and to safeguarding the surrounding area. From the lands of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, cultivated with passion by the winemakers of the Damijan winery, varied and typical wines of the area are created, such as Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana and Friulano. Name and address of producer/distributor: Damijan - Via degli Eroi, 33, 34170 Gorizia GO. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
