TASTING NOTES

Valtellina Superiore Sassella is the product of the best known of the four sub-areas in which Valtellina Superiore is divided from grapes Nebbiolo, locally called Chiavennasca, and a small percentage of other local varieties. Red with garnet nuances, it is a wine of great harmony, with intense aromas of fruit, field violet with hints of fine spice and balsamic echoes. The palate is robust and austere, with velvety tannins and good balance. Perfect with red meats, but also with hearty first courses and medium-aged cheeses.  To fully appreciate the style, this Valtellina Superiore must be served at a service temperature of 14/16 ºC. THE WINERY

Bettini

One of Valtellina's historic wineries, Fratelli Bettini is a gem of a winery nestled in the heart of Lombardy, in the Valgella area and better known in its own territory than in other regions. Most of the production takes place using the classic method, using carefully selected native grape varieties, but applying modern and innovative techniques. The vinification and maturation processes are conducted with great care, and take place in the cellars in oak barrels and barriques, some of which are French. All the processes contribute to the absolute quality and characterisation of the taste and aromas of the wines produced, which are acidic to just the right degree, with sugary and alcoholic nuances. In the province of Sondrio, near Teglio, the estate cultivates around 15 hectares of family-owned land. In an area historically suited to viticulture, there are terraced vineyards supported by stone walls. It is impossible not to be impressed by the area's fine mountain Nebbiolo. However, Bettini is also known for its Lombardy sparkling wines such as Brut, Rosé and Bianco Brut, most of which are produced in the traditional way. Finally, a visit to the estate cannot be considered complete without a stop at the nearby Azienda Agricola, immersed in nature and ready to offer a tasting in bucolic surroundings. Name and address of producer/distributor: Bettini - Via Nazionale, 68 23036 S. Giacomo di Teglio (SO). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
