TASTING NOTES

In this corner of Montalcino, in 1975, the Roman lawyer Gabriele Mastrojanni purchased the San Pio and Loreto estates and decided to plant the first vineyards there, some of which still produce excellent wines today. These places, sparsely populated and largely uncultivated throughout human history, benefit from a clean and virgin land, free from the contaminants which, at the hands of men, might otherwise have befouled it. Gabriele, passionate about creating an excellent Brunello, planted practically exclusively Sangiovese vines. The Mastrojanni family lived in Rome, and consequently placed their trust in Andrea Machetti, whom they asked to manage the development of the winery full time, entrusting the role of winemaker to the great Maurizio Castelli, who remains the winery’s primary consultant. By the early 1990s, Mastrojanni had started to gain esteem beyond the owners’ expectations, both in Italy and abroad. Before long, the winery was among Montalcino’s best. In 2008, the winery was acquired by the Illy Group, but the style, refinement, and elegance of these great Tuscan red wines remains unchanged. Rosso di Montalcino Mastrojanni is produced exclusively from Sangiovese grapes, giving it a bright, intense ruby red colour which is reflected in its broad and rich nose, dominated by strong notes of ripe red berry fruits enriched with hints of balsamic and spice. In the mouth, this wine is lively, rich, and captivating, with a thick tannic texture and a long, pleasant finish with fruity returns. An extraordinarily pleasant wine, it is perfect for everyday consumption or to accompany red meats from the grill. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Mastrojanni

Since 1975, Cantina Mastrojanni has been writing Italian wine history with its Tuscan wines of excellence, achieving local and international recognition. One of the best-known producers of Brunello di Montalcino, the Mastrojanni winery has been able to make a qualitative change to the area's wine, employing traditional techniques combined with a strong passion for nature and the history of the land. The Mastrojanni farm is located in the heart of the Brunello land, in the province of Siena, where an ancient artistic and cultural tradition meet in an area dedicated to the production of this important wine, an area with varied and unique soils. Carrying on the traditions of Brunello processing, Mastrojanni opts to use brushed concrete vitrified wine vessels, essential in the micro-oxygenation process, to achieve the balance and taste of traditional Tuscan red wines. Today, the company works with more than 200 associate producers, involved in all processes, from grape picking to vinification in the winery, to ensure the production of a unique, high-quality Brunello di Montalcino. Name and address of producer/distributor: Mastrojanni - Poderi Loreto, 53024 Castelnuovo dell'Abate (SI). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
