TASTING NOTES

The Paolo Zucchetto winery produces Prosecco in the Veneto municipality of Valdobbiadene, at the heart of the wine-producing area, under the banners of innovation and quality without compromise. The company’s history reaches back to 1918, when Cesare Zucchetto, a Valdobbiadene chemist and the father of Paolo Zucchetto, decided to plant some vineyards in the Cartizze hills and produce a Prosecco which soon became famous even outside the Veneto region. It was his son, Paolo Zucchetto, who – after graduating in agricultural sciences, viticulture, and winemaking – switched the entire winery to the production of sparkling wine produced using the Charmat method in 1965. The family enterprise started to win prizes and to make a name for itself beyond Italy’s borders as Prosecco became more popular around the world. Prosecco Valdobbiadene Superiore Brut ‘Livei’ is made exclusively from Glera grapes from the family’s vineyards. The grapes are harvested by hand, soft-pressed, and subjected to a second fermentation in bottles in accordance with age-old tradition. The wine is then aged for five months in steel tanks followed by at least three months in the bottle in contact with the lees. It is a refreshing, fresh-tasting wine with a light straw yellow colour. On the nose, aromas of citrus fruits and acacia flowers can be detected along with hints of bread crust and butter. It is pleasant and lively on the palate with a delicately soft mousse. This semi-sparkling wine from the Veneto region is extremely versatile and can accompany any meal, but is particularly suited to hors d’oeuvre, cured meats, cheeses, and traditional Venetian dishes. THE WINERY

Zucchetto Paolo

After the end of the First World War, Cesare Zucchetto, a pharmacist from Valdobbiadene, Veneto, decided he wanted to help rebuild the exhausted region. Combining his passion for wine and viticulture with his knowledge of chemistry, he started his cultivation from a vineyard in the surrounding hills, in Cartizze Alto. The first product was a Prosecco of unbelievable quality, initially appreciated by families in the Veneto region and soon also outside the region. The actual expansion came with his son Paolo, who started cultivating new vineyards in the Valdobbiadene area and producing excellent sparkling wines using the Metodo Martinotti. Gradually, the winery's products began to be recognised and known internationally, also thanks to the spread of knowledge and general appreciation of Prosecco. Today, the vineyards are in the hands of Paolo, while his son Carlo Alberto is in charge of the winemaking, and he applies all his obsession for perfection in the production of wines of the best possible quality. Name and address of producer/distributor: Zucchetto Paolo - Via Cima, 16 – 31049, San Pietro di Barbozza di Valdobbiadene (TV). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
