TASTING NOTES

Fattoria Mantellassi, an important company in Tuscany that contributed significantly to the establishment of the Designation of Controlled Origin of Morellino di Scansano in 1978. The Mantellassi family, coming from the Pistoia area, moved to the Scansano and Magliano area around 1860. Always winemakers, in 1960 they began the planting of the first four hectares of vineyards in the Banditaccia area, today there are around one hundred. The Mantellassi farm extends for 215 hectares over the Maremma hills in the Municipality of Magliano in Tuscany. Tufaceous-limestone soil with an ampelographic base consisting mainly of red grape varieties, Sangiovese, Alicante, Cabernet Sauvignon, Morellino, Merlot, Canaiolo Nero, Malvasia Nera and Ciliegiolo; white grape varieties, Vermentino, Sauvignon. The Maremma Toscana DOC Maestrale di Mantellassi is a Tuscan red wine produced by Ciliegiolo as monovarietal, aged in stainless steel tanks and rested for a few months in the bottle. It is a really bright ruby red colour. On the nose, it has a pleasant note of cherry and raspberry, fresh flowers and a hint of rose. The taste is soft, with a discreet freshness on the palate, a perfect wine to be enjoyed a few months after bottling. This red wine is ideal for every day, it pairs well with traditional Tuscan cured meats.
