TASTING NOTES

Production

Zamichele is a winery founded in 2000, comprising 11 hectares between Sirmione, Peschiera and Pozzolengo. The winery is run by the two Zamichele cousins and their wives; their family has been involved in agriculture for over a century. Their motto is ‘unconditional respect for nature’; indeed, they do not use herbicides or desiccants, ensuring that the vineyards also provide a welcoming environment for local wildlife. Birds nest amongst the rows, and a wide variety of animals can be spotted whilst walking through the vineyards, including hares, hedgehogs and pheasants. We are in the Lugana region, the jewel in the crown of Lombardy’s white wines, although it extends for a few hectares into the Veneto region. Here, the climate is particularly suited to viticulture thanks to the immense influence of Lake Garda, Italy’s largest lake, which moderates the summer heat by drawing away some of the humidity and mitigates the extremely harsh cold during the winter. For this reason, one can also admire lemon trees, olive groves and palm trees. The limestone soil of the morainic hills does the rest, providing an ideal environment for the vines to thrive. Lugana is a dry white wine produced entirely from Turbiana grapes. The grapes are harvested by hand, selected in the cellar, and then gently crushed and pressed. The must ferments in steel vats and is then bottled. E (100ml) = 326.5kJ/78kcal

THE WINERY

Zamichele

In the beautiful area of Lake Garda, between the municipalities of Sirmione, Peschiera del Garda and Pozzolengo, straddling Lombardy and Veneto, lies the Zamichele winery. With over a century of history behind it, the company is located in the heart of the Lugana production area and its labels offer an innovative and authentic interpretation of it. With its 6 hectares of vines, the production of the wines offered at the winery is controlled at every stage. It consists of the enormous respect for the land shown during the trials and witnessed by the presence of ladybirds, snails and birds with their nests in the rows. This is in fact due to the non-use of desiccants or herbicides. In addition, the hilly terrain on which the estate stands offers characteristics that are partially clayey in the coastal areas and partially gravelly and draining due to the remains of the glacier that formed the valley. All of this, together with a very favourable, almost Mediterranean, breezy and sunny climate, has always favoured the production of extraordinary Lombardy white wines and Venetian wines, but also red Lombardy wines of superlative quality such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Finally, to intensify its efforts towards sustainability, Zamichele introduced a photovoltaic system that allows it to produce its own electricity from clean, renewable sources. Name and address of producer/distributor: Zamichele - Loc. località Roveglia, Palazzina,2, 25010 Pozzolengo (BS). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
