TASTING NOTES

Since the 1960s, love for one's roots, culture as a continuous exchange, constant research, curiosity, the willingness to innovate and modernise and the passion for one's work are the values that have sustained the Cotarella family company. In the 80s, the wine-making brothers Renzo and Riccardo founded the Falesco winery in Montefiascone to recover the ancient vines, then paying particular attention also to the international one they found in the area between Lazio and Umbria, a favourable soil and climatic situation structured on volcanic hills. This is how Montiano was created, a wine of extraordinary elegance, of great concentration and structure that comes to life from a specific Merlot clone. Produced from grapes that reach an excellent level of maturation from low production vineyards and harvested in early September. Once in the winery, the grapes are subjected to a manual selection, allowing for only the best grapes to continue fermentation. The resulting wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in barriques and ages for 12 months in new French oak barriques. Its colour is a deep ruby red. The aromatic range that opens ranges from small red berry fruits, to jam, sweet spices and a vanilla finish. On the palate, it is round, soft and full, warm, intense and persistent, perfect if drunk in large balloon glasses and paired with gourmet meat-based dishes. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Falesco

Founded in 1979 by the brothers Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella, the Falesco company philosophy is centred on the search for a balance between the uniqueness of the traditions of Lazio wines and the versatility of the grapes used. For over 50 years, the Cotarella family has valued local production by adopting cutting-edge scientific methods and techniques to revitalize the local winemaking traditions. The hilly area of volcanic origin over which the vineyards of Cantina Falesco extend, between Lake Bolsena in Lazio and Umbria, is an area with climatic and pedological characteristics particularly suitable for native viticulture. With the acquisition of new land, with a total of 260 hectares of calcareous soil, Falesco thus undertakes the production of typical wines of the Umbrian terroir: Merlot, Verdicchio and Sangiovese. By combining careful research of ancient grape varieties with advanced technologies, the Cotarella brothers follow a highly scientific approach to the creation of those fine red wines from Lazionow renowned internationally. Name and address of producer/distributor: Falesco - Loc. San Pietro 05020 Montecchio (TR). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
