TASTING NOTES

Production

The Donnafugata winery was founded in Sicily by the Rallo family, who, driven by passion, have succeeded in raising the profile of Sicilian wine worldwide. Ben Ryé grappa is produced by distilling the dried Zibibbo pomace from the production of passito wine in a pot still, a process followed by a long ageing in small oak casks. Nutritional values per 100ml: 1006kJ/241kcal

Organoleptic Characteristics

In the glass, this spirit displays golden hues and a characteristic citrus note that unfolds into a variety of fresh and candied fruit notes: from citron to peach, from apricot to exotic fruit, with an elegant vanilla finish.

Occasion and Pairing

A spirit for contemplation, yet also perfect for sipping after a meal accompanied by dry pastries; surprisingly delightful when enjoyed in small sips alongside mature and spicy cheeses.

Serving Temperature

THE WINERY

Donnafugata

Donnafugata's wines interpret Sicily and passionately describe its sensory universe. Donnafugata was established in Sicily from the initiative of a family with over 160 years of experience in quality wine. The company was founded in 1983 from the Rallo family’s historic wine cellars in Marsala and in the Contessa Entellina vineyards, in the heart of western Sicily. In 1989, Donnafugata arrived on the island of Pantelleria where it began producing sweet natural wines. The name Donnafugata, literally "woman on the run", refers to the story of Queen Maria Carolina, wife of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, who fled Naples due to the arrival of Napoleon's troops in the early 1800s and took refuge in that part of Sicily where the company vineyards are located today. The face of a woman on each bottle has thus become the symbol of Donnafugata, inspired by the life of Gabriella Rallo, who gave up her job to devote herself to the Contessa Entelline vineyards, a typically male sector, thus becoming a pioneer of Italian female viticulture. With its Sicilian red wines, Donnafugata represents the excellence of Made in Italy, creating a perfect dialogue between art, wine and sustainability. The high quality of these wines is closely linked to a sustainable approach, aimed at safeguarding biodiversity, which is essential for creating authentic wines that are attentive to organic and sustainable viticulture. Name and address of producer/distributor: Donnafugata - Via Sebastiano Lipari, 18, 91025 Marsala (TP). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
