TASTING NOTES

Enrico Gatti has been writing pages of Franciacorta history for almost half a century. A personal challenge that began with red wines, which evolved into a family business in the nineteen-eighties and turned decisively towards sparkling wines, generating that growth that led him to build a new wine cellar, as functional as it was sophisticated, at the beginning of the new century. Always keeping a keen eye on production sustainability: Gatti fertilises (only organic) with a dropper, he does not weed and treatments in the vineyard are only carried out in extreme cases. The vineyards that give life to his Franciacorta Brut date back to the nineteen-eighties, a linear and pleasant interpretation of sparkling wines, perfectly identifiable with the distinct identity of a small reality but capable of delivering high quality. The grapes, 100% Chardonnay, vinify in stainless steel vats after soft pressing, and then begin their 24-month journey in the bottle, during which time ageing leads to the full expression of their aromatic potential, the hallmark of Gatti wines. In the glass, the wine spreads a crystal-clear light, amplified by a perlage that imposes itself with elegance and length. On the nose, the first wave of aromas are reminiscent of ripe exotic fruit, citrus and almond, lying on that bed of bread crust typical of classic methods done properly. On the palate it is full, gradually widening out before beginning a dance between full flavour and acidity without losing its drinkability, which is a hallmark of the winery. With the gratification of a finish that makes the fruit that had just graced the nose reappear on the palate. Gatti's Franciacorta Brut successfully opens an evening with friends, but it can also be the centrepiece of a dinner table, to accompany hors d'oeuvres and first fish and shellfish based courses. THE WINERY

Gatti Enrico

In the panorama of Lombard wineries, the Enrico Gatti winery stands out for its history of passion and ambition. The activity of this small family-run business began in 1972, when Enrico Gatti gave up his job in the construction industry to devote himself to his first endeavour on rented land. Over the years, Enrico's holdings have expanded, now numbering 22 hectares of vineyards, whose roots find nourishment in deep, morainic soil. The altitude at which the vines are exposed, between 180 and 280 metres above sea level, and the average age of the vineyards, guarantee the production of a Franciacorta that is distinguished by finesse and elegance. The management of the Enrico Gatti winery, which has been increasingly modernised and improved over the years, has fallen into the hands of his children Paola and Lorenzo Gatti. Like their father, they pay careful attention to the ripening of the grapes, from which they make sparkling wines that encapsulate the very essence of Franciacorta and are appreciated throughout Italy. Name and address of producer/distributor: Gatti Enrico - Via Metelli 9 – 25030 Erbusco BS. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
