TASTING NOTES

Fontodi is a certified organic farm that covers an area of 170 hectares, more than 80 of which are planted with vineyards. The farming is inspired by principles of naturalness and sustainability. According to the Fontodi philosophy, respecting the environment produces better, cleaner wines that are a better expression of the terroir. Since 1968, Fontodi has belonged to the Manetti family, involved for centuries in the production of terracotta and the ever more careful cultivation of Sangiovese vineyards in the area of Panzano, a hamlet in the municipality of Greve in Chianti, in the province of Florence, an area known as the “CONCA D’ORO” or “golden basin”. All Fontodi wines are made with grapes from their own vineyards, hand-picked and carefully selected. Definitely a significant Tuscan business. Fontodi’s Flaccianello delle Pieve is a Supertuscan produced from Tuscan Sangiovese and covered by one of the most important denominations in Tuscany: Colli della Toscana IGT. The Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT designation includes the provinces of Florence, Arezzo, Pistoia, Prato and Siena and was created in 1995. A red wine that spends 24 months in barriques, with a beautiful intense ruby red colour and a complex and evolved aromatic profile redolent of ripe red fruit, blackberries, cherries, berries and spices. On the palate it reveals a good structure, full-bodied and intense, with a long and persistent length. Perfect for an important occasion and for pairing with red meat dishes: stews and braised meats and why not, an excellent companion to a succulent Fiorentina steak. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Fontodi

In the areas south of Panzano, in the Chianti Classico area, there is a valley called "Conca d'Oro". Here the Manetti family, which has always specialized in the production of terracotta and in the careful cultivation of Sangiovese in the area, in 1968 established the headquarters of the Fontodi winery, producer of Tuscan wines of real quality. Covering more than 170 hectares, more than 80 of which are dedicated to vineyards, the company, certified organic, acts with the utmost respect for the integrity of the land, its naturalness and sustainability. Fontodi, by not using chemicals, tries to value internal resources and reduce what comes from the outside. Fertilization takes place thanks to a compound obtained with pruning residues and the manure of a herd of Chianina cattle bred on the farm. All this is accompanied by modern oenological techniques, which allow for the creation of a perfect combination of complexity and harmony, typical of the Chianti area. But the excellence of the Tuscan red wines produced here also derives from other factors. First of all, the area, by its nature, is suited to viticulture, due to the high altitude, the marly soils and the warm and dry microclimate with a considerable temperature range. Furthermore, the vinification and subsequent maturation is carried out in wood in cellars positioned on descending levels. In doing so, it is possible to operate by gravity with the utmost respect for the surrounding nature. Finally, thanks to in-depth research on the Sangiovese vines, the characteristics of these grapes that are still partly unpublished are exploited, which enable the production of excellent wines such as Chianti Classico, Flaccianello della Pieve and Vigna del Sorbo. Name and address of producer/distributor: Azienda Agricola Fondoti, 50022 Panzano in Chianti FI. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
