TASTING NOTES

Querciabella have become one of the most innovative winemakers in Tuscany. In fact, since the company undertook a biodynamic approach in 2000, they have reduced and removed nearly all animal-based products in the management of their vineyards and wine production. The common thread throughout the winery is not to disturb the natural course of plant life and the surrounding ecosystem. Located between the Chianti Classico and Maremma wilds with over 106 hectares, the winery has the largest holdings of organic vineyards in Italy. Querciabella’s Chianti Classico is a Sangiovese monovarietal, the most widespread red berried grape in Italy. It really displays the best of the region and can offer different nuances depending on where it is vinified. Greve, Radda and Gaiole are the three production villages. Once the grapes are harvested by hand, they are pressed and destemmed before maceration takes place for two weeks in oak and steel. Maturation lasts 14 months and it then rests in the bottle for three months before being sold. Querciabella’s Sangiovese is a red wine with soft violet reflections, aromas of currants, cloves and rose petals, with a crisp, vibrant palate. Dynamic like the soil in Radda, its freshness evokes Greve and it has a nice minerality thanks to the marl of Gaiole. A perfect red to pair with meat dishes or a classic pappa al pomodoro soup. One to enjoy at home, it’s great as an every-day wine. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Querciabella

The origins of the Querciabella winery have ancient roots, but its foundation only dates back to the 1970s. Originally, it wasn't even meant to be a winery in the true sense of the word: its founder had been impressed by the area that local winegrowers called “Vigna della Querciabella” because of the imposing oak tree that stood on the land. The founder's initial idea was to create wine for himself and a few friends, based on his passion for wine growing. Precisely this fact has made Cantina Querciabella one of the most interesting wineries in Tuscany’s wine panorama. The family's study and commitment have been combined with the most innovative techniques, combined with the knowledge of local farmers, leading to the creation of Tuscan wines of the highest quality, capable of conveying the best of the territory in every glass. Organic and sustainable cultivation is another of the company’s strengths, which has always been in love with the land and its unique characteristics. Its hectares of land are mainly cultivated with Sangiovese, which is one of its most popular and enduring products. Name and address of producer/distributor: Querciabella - Via di Barbiano, 17, 50022 Greve in Chianti (FI). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
