TASTING NOTES

Production

We are in Castelnuovo Beraldenga, on the south-eastern edge of the Chianti Classico region, north-west of Siena, where the Chianti Classico hills become gentler and the sun shines more generously, bestowing warmth and brightness. Here the fruit becomes fuller and darker, giving the wines more powerful, less floral and generally more savoury characteristics. The Sangiovese grapes used to produce Felsina’s Berardenga Chianti Classico DOCG come precisely from these mid-slope vineyards. This Chianti Classico is the estate’s flagship wine; harvesting takes place within the first three weeks of October. Maceration in stainless steel tanks lasts for 12–15 days with automatic punching down and daily pumping over. In spring, the new wine is transferred to medium-sized Slavonian oak barrels, with a small percentage going into second- and third-use barriques for 12 months. This is followed by blending and bottling, after which the wine remains in the bottle for 3 months.

Organoleptic Characteristics

Bright ruby red in colour, with a fruity and elegant bouquet, the nose reveals notes of wild berries and hints of spice. The fruit is also evident on the palate, with well-integrated tannins caressing the palate and the flavour lingering for several seconds.

Occasion and Pairing

A Chianti Classico suitable for everyday drinking, perfect for accompanying traditional Tuscan meat main courses, such as a tasty Florentine-style tripe or a delicious wild boar stew.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C.

THE WINERY

Felsina

The Ferghettina winery was founded in Lombardy in 1991 from the work of Roberto Gatti and his family, driven by love for the hills of Franciacorta. The cornerstone for the production of this designation and beyond, the Ferghettina wines, with their deep and fine character and their fragrances, are synonymous with safety and quality. Roberto began his production in 1990, thanks to his knowledge on viticulture and the most modern winemaking techniques. His work initially took place on 4 hectares of land in Ebrusco. The first two wines that launch it onto the market come from here: the red Terre di Franciacorta and a White wine. It was from the following year that the story of what is now the Ferghettina’s key product began: Franciacorta Brut. Over the years, the estate has expanded. From those initial 4 hectares, he now manages around 200. They occupy territories that extend over 11 municipalities of Franciacorta, located between Lake Sebino and the Alps. The variety of land used for vines and a organic cultivation regime, together with the extreme care given to the processing thanks to manual work, guarantee that intrinsic quality and that unmistakable style that characterize the wines of the Ferghettina estate. Name and address of producer/distributor: Ferghettina - via Saline, 11, 25030 Adro BS. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
