TASTING NOTES

Production

We are in Castelnuovo Beraldenga, on the south-eastern edge of the Chianti Classico region, north-west of Siena, where the Chianti Classico hills become gentler and the sun shines more generously, bestowing warmth and brightness. Here the fruit becomes fuller and darker, giving the wines more powerful, less floral and generally more savoury characteristics. The Sangiovese grapes used to produce Felsina’s Berardenga Chianti Classico DOCG come precisely from these mid-slope vineyards. This Chianti Classico is the estate’s flagship wine; harvesting takes place within the first three weeks of October. Maceration in stainless steel tanks lasts for 12–15 days with automatic punching down and daily pumping over. In spring, the new wine is transferred to medium-sized Slavonian oak barrels, with a small percentage going into second- and third-use barriques for 12 months. This is followed by blending and bottling, after which the wine remains in the bottle for 3 months.

Organoleptic Characteristics

Bright ruby red in colour, with a fruity and elegant bouquet, the nose reveals notes of wild berries and hints of spice. The fruit is also evident on the palate, with well-integrated tannins caressing the palate and the flavour lingering for several seconds.

Occasion and Pairing

A Chianti Classico suitable for everyday drinking, perfect for accompanying traditional Tuscan meat main courses, such as a tasty Florentine-style tripe or a delicious wild boar stew.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C.

THE WINERY

Felsina

Purchased in 1966 by Domenico Poggiali, the Fèlsina farm has since then offered wines of the highest quality, coming from selected and extremely well-kept grapes, also known internationally thanks to the recognition, over the years of its history, of various awards. Despite the use of modern and innovative production techniques, the family has never abandoned the tradition associated with Tuscan wine. With over 40 hectares of vineyards, the farm is located in the Chianti Classico area. One of the main occupations of the estate has always been linked to the defence of nature, the land and its fertility. The family has always been very attentive to safeguarding the ecosystem, aware of how much man is responsible for the environment around him with his work. In fact, it is no coincidence that over the years experiments have gone in this direction, starting from integrated and biodynamic agriculture, to arrive at modern technologies and innovations. On the estate, the main grape variety offers the largest number of Sangiovese clones ever. Below the farm there is also the ancient stone wine cellar, originally set in the tuff. Today, it has been enlarged and connected to the old stable and houses the maturation process inside. At the end of vinification and ageing, Fèlsina offers incomparable Tuscan red wines, such as Chianti Rancia, Fontalloro, Colonia, Berardenga and Maestro Raro, all aromatic and with fruity scents, with tones of berries. Name and address of producer/distributor: Felsina - Via del Chianti, 101 53019 – Castelnuovo Berardenga SI. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
