TASTING NOTES

The Felsina Winery is an iconic Chianti Classico winery. Founded in 1966 when Domenico Poggiali acquired the farm during a difficult period for Italian viticulture, he chose to invest in its land and make quality wine. Therefore, Domenico and his son Giuseppe, both passionate about viticulture and skilled businessmen, modernised management of the countryside while retaining the traditions and spirit of a place that remains one of the most famous Italian names in the world. We are in Castelnuovo Berardenga on the south-eastern border of Chianti Classico, northwest of Siena, where the hills give way slightly to a stronger and warmer sun. The fruit here is bigger and darker; the chianti is stronger, less floral and often tends to be more savoury. Sangiovese grapes used in the production of Felsina’s Berardenga Chianti Classico DOCG come from these hilly vineyards. This Chianti Classico is the winemaker’s pièce de résistance, with the harvest taking place in the first three weeks of October. Maceration in steel tanks lasts between 12-15 days with daily automated punching down and pumping over. In March-April, the new wine is transferred into medium-capacity Slavonian oak barrels, with a small percentage into second and third passage barriques for 12 months. Subsequently, blending and bottling takes place, in which the wine stays for three months. Bright ruby red with a fruity, elegant bouquet of undergrowth and spicy nuances. There are also fruit traces and the palate is caressed by the well integrated tannin, while the taste lingers for several seconds. A Chianti Classico for every-day enjoyment, it’s perfect when pairing with traditional Tuscan meat dishes and other cuisines. Combine it with a tasty trippa alla fiorentina (Florentine style tripe)or a good cinghiale in umido (meat stew). Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Felsina

Purchased in 1966 by Domenico Poggiali, the Fèlsina farm has since then offered wines of the highest quality, coming from selected and extremely well-kept grapes, also known internationally thanks to the recognition, over the years of its history, of various awards. Despite the use of modern and innovative production techniques, the family has never abandoned the tradition associated with Tuscan wine. With over 40 hectares of vineyards, the farm is located in the Chianti Classico area. One of the main occupations of the estate has always been linked to the defence of nature, the land and its fertility. The family has always been very attentive to safeguarding the ecosystem, aware of how much man is responsible for the environment around him with his work. In fact, it is no coincidence that over the years experiments have gone in this direction, starting from integrated and biodynamic agriculture, to arrive at modern technologies and innovations. On the estate, the main grape variety offers the largest number of Sangiovese clones ever. Below the farm there is also the ancient stone wine cellar, originally set in the tuff. Today, it has been enlarged and connected to the old stable and houses the maturation process inside. At the end of vinification and ageing, Fèlsina offers incomparable Tuscan red wines, such as Chianti Rancia, Fontalloro, Colonia, Berardenga and Maestro Raro, all aromatic and with fruity scents, with tones of berries. Name and address of producer/distributor: Felsina - Via del Chianti, 101 53019 – Castelnuovo Berardenga SI. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
