TASTING NOTES

Production

The second label of the Frederic Levin project, this Champagne comes from one of the most chalk-rich terroirs, where Chardonnay grapes find their fullest expression on the south-east facing slopes. The name ‘Gars’ is short for ‘Garson’ and features three stylised waiters on the label. The wine matures for around 40 months on the lees in cellars carved into the chalk. Energy per 100ml: 271kJ/65kcal

Organoleptic Characteristics

A rich Champagne with a brilliant golden colour, hints of ripe fruit and dried fruit, and subtle notes of aromatic herbs such as thyme and sage. Freshness and savouriness are well-balanced, making the palate smooth but not sweet. Light effervescence and excellent length.

Occasion and Pairing

Frederic Levin’s Champagne Grand Cru Gars is excellent as an aperitif or paired with fish main courses.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 8–10°C.

THE WINERY

Frederic Levin

Frederic Savart, a talented and passionate vigneron, has always tried to preserve the true expression of nature as much as possible. The house is located near the small villages of Écueil and Villers-aux-Nœuds, on the north-west slope of the Montagne de Reims. The desire for all of the house's Champagnes is to privilege manual work and reduce mechanical work, with the aim of preserving and protecting only all aspects of the grape, the nuances and the DOC zone of the terroir. Savart's Champagnes are a laboratory of different territories and singular and unique creations, from ancient vineyards resting on a characteristic subsoil composed of a clayey, chalky matrix rich in marine fossils, called craie. Perlage with an unmistakable mineral note that manage to balance power, finesse and freshness. Name and address of producer/distributor: Champagne Savart - 1 Chemin de Sacy, 51500 Écueil - France. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
