The Maison’s style is distinguished by the use of Pinot Noir grapes, resulting in structured Champagnes of great finesse and elegance. The Brut Cuvée Saint-Petersbourg is a historic Champagne from the Veuve Clicquot cellars, dedicated to Barbe Nicole Ponsardin, better known as Madame Clicquot, who first exported it to Russia. The cuvée is crafted from a selection of grapes from 50–60 plots, with a predominance of Pinot Noir, which lends structure and expressive depth, complemented by Chardonnay and Meunier. At the end of the first fermentation, 30–45% of reserve wines are added to the vintage wines, imparting maturity and complexity to the blend. The second fermentation takes place in the bottle according to the Champenoise method, with a rest on the lees for 4 or 5 years. Cuvée Saint-Petersbourg is a Champagne of great aromatic intensity and minerality. It perfectly embodies the classic and traditional character of the Veuve Clicquot brand, which helped create the legend of Champagne. 100 ml: E = 314 kJ/75 kcal
In the glass, it displays a beautiful, luminous and brilliant golden colour, with a very fine and persistent perlage. The bouquet is characterised by fruity aromas of peach, mirabelle plum and pear, with hints of citrus zest, notes of vanilla, petits fours and dried fruit. Harmonious and rich, it has a delicate aromatic complexity that translates into a long, deep palate, leading to a finish of lively freshness.
Not just for an aperitif, Champagne and cheese can prove to be an unexpectedly fabulous pairing, capable of cutting to the chase to bring out the best in each other.
To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 8–10°C.
