TASTING NOTES

This Bolgheri Vermentino comes from the Grattamacco estate, from a one-hectare vineyard located on the top of a hill overlooking the sea between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri. It is produced entirely with Vermentino grapes, harvested and selected only by hand. Fermentation takes place partly in steel and partly in barriques, after which the wine ages for eight months in barriques and for another six months in the bottle, before being placed on the market. Grattamacco's Vermentino is a rich and multifaceted white wine, capable of surprising thanks to a truly unique balance and length. It has a straw yellow colour of medium intensity, with intriguing greenish veins. On the nose, clear hints of yellow peach are perceived, surrounded by floral hints of chamomile, which close towards the balsamic vinegar on mint and sage. The sip combines freshness and sapidity, resting on a remarkable mineral structure. The measured use of wood gives creaminess and sweetness, which lead to a finish of excellent persistence. Ideal bottle for an aperitif with friends, where the optimum will be reached by placing a tray of fresh cheeses in the centre of the table. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Grattamacco

The name of the Grattamacco winery derives from “macco”, a word that meant “iron” in ancient Etruscan. The soil in which its vineyards are rooted is rich in minerals. In Tuscany, high up in the hills of the Bolgheri DOC, siblings Maria Iris and Claudio Tipa have been involved in the production of some of the most sought-after labels by lovers of good wine since the late 1970s. Grattamacco's vineyards are spread over 27 hectares and surrounded by a dense forest that separates them from the surrounding vineyards. This protective cordon contributes to the creation of a unique microclimate, favouring the cultivation of red varieties, such as Sangiovese, alongside white grapes, such as Vermentino. At the Grattamacco winery, part of the Collemassari group since 2002, the entire production process is carried out respecting the principles of organic agriculture and the host environment. The selections are selected manually and each grape is very carefully examined. Fermentation takes place with natural yeasts, giving each of the Grattamacco wines an intense aroma and strong personality. Name and address of producer/distributor: Grattamacco - Loc. Lungagnano, 128, 57022 Castagneto Carducci (LI). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
