TASTING NOTES

Production

Scarzello’s Barolo Sarmassa is a masterful expression of one of Barolo’s most celebrated crus, where the clay-limestone soil yields wines of incredible substance. Production follows a traditional yet refined approach: long fermentations and ageing for around 30 months in large oak barrels, allowing the Nebbiolo to evolve without being overpowered by the wood.

Organoleptic Characteristics

In the glass, it reveals a classic, transparent garnet colour. The aromatic profile is austere and elegant, characterised by notes of wilted violet, cherries in alcohol and a deep interplay of liquorice, tobacco and damp earth. On the palate, the true soul of Sarmassa emerges: a powerful, textured mouthfeel, with dense yet silky tannins and a balsamic freshness that provides a perfect balance between vigour and refinement.

Occasion and Pairing

This is a wine that pairs best with intense, succulent dishes: ideal with braised meats, game birds, dishes enhanced with white truffle, or blue-veined and mature cheeses such as Castelmagno.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C.
