TASTING NOTES

Production

The Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Santa Sofia is crafted from a blend of 70% Corvina and Corvinone and 30% Rondinella. After harvesting, the grapes destined for Recioto and Amarone are left to dry for about 100 days in climate-controlled rooms, allowing the wine to develop the characteristic structure and softness typical of these labels. Following vinification, the wine rests for 36 months in large wooden barrels (Slavonian oak), and then it ages for at least another 12 months directly in glass.

Organoleptic Characteristics

It has a deep, impenetrable ruby color with garnet reflections. On the nose, it presents a bold yet delicate bouquet, featuring refined aromas of ripe cherries, currants, and dried plums, along with notes of chocolate and balsamic sensations. On the palate, it is juicy with velvety tannins, enveloping and mature; the alcohol is well-balanced by citrusy freshness, making the wine substantial yet easy to drink.

Occasion and Pairing

This Venetian red wine is perfect for a Sunday lunch, pairing beautifully with red meats such as pot roasts and braised beef in red wine.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C.

THE WINERY

Santa Sofia

In Pedemonte, in the heart of the Veneto region and in one of the best-known areas for the production of quality wines, stands the Santa Sofia winery, inside an ancient aristocratic villa designed and built by the renowned architect Andrea Palladio. Since the 1960s, the winery has been in the hands of the Begnoni family, which has also owned it since then. With its 53 hectares of mainly stony land, the winery, under the leadership of the family, has always had the goal of expanding its distribution both nationally and internationally. Initially intending to offer all typical Veronese productions, the company has focused on specific products and selected crops over time, the products of which are harvested in the vineyard with extreme care at every single step. Today Santa Sofia produces and distributes very structured and elegant red wines, including Valpolicella Superiore Montegradella, Recioto della Valpolicella, Bardolino, Amarone, Arlèo, Merlot Corvina and Predaia. However, there is no shortage of fresh, young whites, such as Custoza, Lugana, Pinot Grigio and Soave. Name and address of producer/distributor: Santa Sofia - Via Cà Dedè, 61, 37029 Pedemonte (VR). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
