TASTING NOTES

Production

Alto Adige Pinot Noir Barthenau Vigna Sant'Urbano is made from grapes that are hand-picked and selected, then placed in small crates to keep the berries intact. Seventy-five percent of the grapes are destemmed, while the remaining twenty-five percent is left whole for fermentation in barrel. There is then a day of maceration, followed by fermentation lasting about 10 days, with the skins in continuous contact with the must. The maturation in wood takes place in small French oak barrels for the first 12 months, after which the various barrels are blended into a single large oak cask, where the wine ages for an additional 8 months. After bottling, the wine rests in the Barthenau cellars for eight months before being released for sale.

Organoleptic Characteristics

The glass reveals a deep ruby red, exuding an elegant bouquet of forest red fruits and sweet spices, complemented by a subtle hint of vanilla. The palate is silky, almost caressing, in keeping with the tradition of great Pinot Noir, characterized by perfectly integrated tannins and an uncommon aromatic concentration of small red fruits.

Occasion and Pairing

A perfect bottle for a special occasion, it pairs well with red meat or game dishes, as well as a platter of mild cheeses that complement the wine's elegance.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16-18°C.

THE WINERY

Hofstatter

The Hofstatter Winery is a historical symbol of Alto Adige, guarded by the imposing walls of a 16th century building in the province of Bolzano. The Hofstatter vineyards stretch across the eastern and western sides of the Etschtal, finding a home on soils with different characteristics and microclimates. It was precisely because of this peculiarity that in 1987, for the first time in this region, they were able to introduce the designation “Vigna” for seven of their wines. Heir to an ancient family of winegrowers, Martin Foradori continues to pursue Hofstatter's core objective to this day: to harmonise the centuries-old, unique tradition of their land with an eye for innovation. In fact, the immense heritage of the Hofstatter estate has not precluded the use of modern technology to create a state-of-the-art winery, where new, low-energy concrete barrels are housed. The exceptional finesse of Hofstatter wines confirms that this goal is achieved year after year, yielding sublime examples of both whites, such as the renowned Gewürztraminer, and reds, such as Pinot Noir, that are recognised even beyond Italian borders. Name and address of producer/distributor: Hofstatter - Rathausplatz 7 - 39040 Tramin BZ. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
