TASTING NOTES

Production

It was in 1974 that Enrico Teruzzi, an engineer by trade and a winegrower by passion, founded the winery together with his wife on the outskirts of San Gimignano. The idea was to share his passion through the most powerful tool of conviviality: wine. Today, the Teruzzi estate covers 180 hectares, 96 of which are vineyards, 62 of these dedicated solely to Vernaccia. Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a noble, historic wine that for centuries has graced the tables of nobles, kings and queens; it was the first Italian wine to obtain DOC status in 1966 and remains a white wine of great character to this day. Vernaccia di San Gimignano Sant’Elena is produced from grapes grown on the 3 hectares of the Sant’Elena vineyard in Racciano, situated at an altitude of 350 metres. Vinification takes place exclusively in stainless steel tanks; as for ageing, the wine rests for around 18 months on the fine lees, again in stainless steel tanks.

Organoleptic Characteristics

Intense straw yellow with greenish highlights. The nose is intense and complex, with a broad and varied aromatic bouquet. Notes of white flowers and citrus blend beautifully with mineral and flinty notes. The palate is enveloping, with good intensity, warmth and great length.

Occasion and Pairing

Try it with white meat dishes and simple pasta dishes.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 12–14°C.

THE WINERY

Teruzzi

Tenuta Tolaini is located in the prestigious municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga, an area in the south of the Chianti Classico region that is characterised by the power and longevity it imparts to its wines. When young Pier Luigi Tolaini decided to leave his native Tuscany for North America in 1956, he harboured a dream of returning to Italy to produce a great wine from his homeland. In 1998, he returned to Tuscany and began searching for the ideal place to realise the project he had been cherishing for 40 years. In the heart of Castelnuovo Berardenga, he discovered the vineyards of Montebello and Vallenuova and immediately realised how the incredible gradients in altitude and soil composition gave enormous potential to the land he had purchased. Today, Lia Tolaini, Pier Luigi's daughter, continues her father's dream of producing wines that best reflect the terroir of Castelnuovo Berardenga. Lia cherishes the great legacy left to her and enriches it by bringing innovation, creativity and passion. Name and address of producer/distributor: Tolaini Winery Società Agricola S.r.l. strada di Pievasciata, 28, 53019 Loc. Vallenuova, Castelnuovo Berardenga (SI). Products should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
