The Castelli di Jesi area is a collection of amphitheaters overlooking the sea, set on gently sloping hills. The ancient white grape variety Verdicchio has found here an ideal environment, nurtured by the breezes that move from the Adriatic Sea toward the Apennines, as well as by the currents descending from the mountains toward the sea. The DOC area encompasses 24 municipalities in the provinces of Ancona and Macerata, surrounding the town of Jesi. These areas are traditionally known as "castles" because they were fortified centers during the medieval period. The Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Riserva is a dry white wine produced exclusively from Verdicchio grapes. It is the flagship wine of the Bucci family, sourced from their most esteemed plots, with vines over 40 years old. The grapes are harvested at perfect maturity and strictly by hand. The bunches undergo soft pressing, and the must ferments in steel tanks. The wine is then aged for one year in large Slavonian oak barrels and another year in the bottle. The wine has a golden yellow color with golden reflections. On the nose, the fruit gives way to notes of almond, wild herbs, and thyme. There are hints of spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, with a final touch of hydrocarbons. On the palate, it is full and enveloping, with a soft, creamy body that enhances flavors of butter and hazelnut. It maintains freshness and a long finish. Perfect to enjoy with family or friends over the weekend, or to celebrate a special evening. It pairs beautifully with white meats such as cotoletta alla milanese, lemon chicken breast, or pork ribs. To fully appreciate this wine, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 8-10°C.
