TASTING NOTES

Production

Damijan Podversic is a leading figure in the world of orange wine. On his estate in the Collio Goriziano region, he began working in viticulture at a very young age and quickly achieved success. A pupil of the legendary master Josko Gravner, Damijan produces wines that are an expression of the grape and this land, characterised by long macerations, in keeping with local traditions. Kaplja, which means ‘drop’ in Slovenian, is a wonderful blend of Chardonnay, Friulano and Malvasia. After harvesting, the grapes undergo fermentation on the skins for 60–90 days, followed by three years’ ageing in 20–30hl barrels and one year of bottle ageing.

Organoleptic Characteristics

Intense golden yellow in the glass, it releases aromas of sweet, ripe fruit, peach and candied apricot, honey and sweet spices, with a citrus finish. Each grape contributes its own characteristic to the wine, making it balanced and harmonious on the nose and palate. The pronounced aromatic intensity of the Nekaj at the start provides the aromatic continuity on the palate of the Malvasia, expanding to leave a long, smooth and savoury finish of the Chardonnay.

Occasion and Pairing

It pairs well with a wide range of dishes, from white meats to complex vegetable-based dishes, seafood dishes, but is superb when paired with dishes featuring fragrant spices, such as saffron, turmeric and curry.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 12–14°C.

THE WINERY

Damijan

For generations the D'Angelo family has handed down the traditions, the spirit of the winemakers and the uniqueness of their vineyards. The winery dates back to the thirties and goes hand in hand with the affirmation of Aglianico del Vulture, a wine increasingly appreciated in the Italian wine scene that has become a symbol of Made in Basilicata. Today the company is led by the fourth generation with Erminia and Rocco who contribute to the enhancement of the company, promoting the Lucanian wine culture in America, China and Eastern Europe. The vineyards of the property extend over 25 hectares cultivated with the Prince Agliano del Vulture vine, and also producing other varieties such as Merlot, Primitivo, Malvasia and Moscato. Name and address producer/distributor: Casa Vinicola D'Angelo - Via Padre Pio, 8 - 85028 Rionero in Vulture (PZ) - Italia. The products of this cellar should be stored in a cool and dry place away from heat sources.
