TASTING NOTES

Leone d'Almerita is a Sicilian white wine produced from 40% Catarratto, 19% Pinot Blanc, 23% Sauvignon, 14% Traminer Aromatico, and 4% Moscato grapes. The grapes grown on these hills are cultivated at between 600 and 900 metres above sea level at a location with a large temperature difference between day and night. These temperature variations concentrate the sugars and favour the development of the freshness and aromaticity which are typical of this wine. The grapes are harvested by hand by expert wine growers who remove any bunches that are damaged or not perfectly ripe. Following the harvesting of the grapes, fermentation and ageing take place in stainless steel tanks where the wine is allowed to rest for four months on the lees. A bright straw yellow in colour, the various aromas brought about by the skilful use of the various grape varieties are revealed on the nose, with notes of white peach, grapefruit, green apple, and tropical fruits. On the palate, it is soft, rich, intense, and full with a finish reminiscent of really ripe fruit. It is a perfect wine for every day and is ideal for pairing with fish and shellfish. THE WINERY

Tasca d'Almerita

The history of the Tasca d'Almerita winery has its roots in the 19th century, when brothers Lucio and Carmelo Mastrogiovanni Tasca purchased 1,200 hectares in the Regaleali district in Sicily. Even then, techniques considered cutting-edge not only in the Sicilian wine scene but throughout Italy were being used. The immense winemaking heritage, handed down for eight generations, is now under the leadership of Alberto and Giuseppe Tasca, who carry on the winery always respecting tradition but with an eye to the future. Each of the five estates belonging to the Tasca d'Almerita estate is managed with extreme care and rigor, thanks to the support of a conspicuous team of collaborators. What makes Tasca d'Almerita's wines so special is the vast spread of its vineyards between the island of Salina, land of Mavasia, across to the slopes of Mount Etna. These are some of the most beautiful places in Sicily, and also the most dedicated to wine production. Terroirs with different characteristics ensure that each of the different labels of red and white have distinctive notes, which are recognised and appreciated worldwide. Name and address of producer/distributor: Tasca d'Almerita - Via dei Fiori, 13, 90129 Palermo (PA). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
