TASTING NOTES

Corte Sant'Alda is a splendid Veneto winery nestled in the Valpolicella area, in Valle di Mezzane, one of the most beautiful places in the province of Verona. This area has always been renowned for its fertility, thanks to its abundance of water. Its many rivulets and streams have enabled a flourishing agriculture and have encouraged settlements. In 1983, Marinella Camerini, a talented interpreter of Italian oenology, started the production of wines with her family, following artisanal, biodynamic, and sustainable practices in vineyards which today cover 20 hectares of land with soils rich in calcareous deposits. Respect for nature and the utmost attention to the balance of the ecosystem are combined with innovation and experimentation: barrels of different woods, concrete tanks, fibreglass and amphora. All of the grapes, which hold organic and Demeter certification, are harvested by hand at the moment of perfect ripening, as ascertained by multiple passages through the vineyards. Fermentation starts spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. Soave Doc Corte Sant’Alda is produced in Val di Mezzane, an area where the production of Soave and Valpolicella is intertwined and where the soils differ in their limestone and clay mixtures. The wine is created from a blend of 80% Garganega and 20% Trebbiano di Soave grapes. The grapes are harvested manually, and fermentation takes place at low temperatures by chilling the grapes, not the must, after a few hours of maceration. The wine is allowed to age for several months on its own lees in stainless steel tanks. An intense straw yellow wine with notes of ripe apple and citrus fruits and a bitter almond finish, this wine is full-flavoured on the palate with a great consistency. It is perfect for an aperitif and also goes well with simple risottos and dishes based on vegetables, fish, and white meats. Read more Read less
