TASTING NOTES

Rubicone Sangiovese Guiry IGT is a dry red wine produced by Tenuta Mara in the Emilia-Romagna region. Tenuta Mara is located near to the village of San Clemente in the hilly heart of Romagna. The winery was founded by Giordano Emendatori, a great afficionado of wine and, in particular, the Sangiovese variety, at the start of the 21st century. He dedicated the winery to his wife, Mara: his companion and aide in his adventures. The entire enterprise uses biodynamic agricultural methods: throughout the estate’s seven hectares of vineyards, flora, fauna, and mankind coexist with a unique harmony. In these pleasant lands, human intervention is kept to a minimum so that the characteristics of the territory and grape variety are able to express themselves to the fullest. As you walk through the vineyards, alongside the chirping of the birds you might hear one of Mozart’s symphonies or perhaps Gregorian chants coming from the estate’s music room, located close to the wine cellar, fermentation room, and barrel cellar. At Tenuta Mara, healthy grapes at exactly the right degree of ripening are harvested by hand and taken to the wine cellar where they are sorted extremely carefully. This is followed by alcoholic fermentation in oak truncated cone vats without temperature control and without the addition of selected yeasts. Once ready, the wine is sent to the barrel cellar, accompanied by the dulcet melodies of classical music. This is how Rubicone Sangiovese Guiry starts its life. After alcoholic fermentation, it is allowed to mature on the fine lees for 12 months in small French oak barrels and in small cement barrels. It is then aged in the bottle for six months to create a wine which is a medium-intense, clear ruby red in the glass. On the nose, delicate floral notes of broom and rose can be detected, accompanied by hints of small red berry fruits and followed by an incredibly spicy finish reminiscent of aniseed. It is soft on the palate with well-integrated tannin and a moderate freshness. Menthol notes can be perceived in its finish. The history of Tenuta Mara is relatively short, compared to that of other farms in Emilia-Romagna; but the commitment, passion and study applied to viticulture have managed to make it one of the most interesting realities in the entire region from the very beginning. When it was founded, the company set itself the ambitious goal of working as naturally as possible, applying the principles of organic and sustainable viticulture, for an intense product full of character that can best tell the unique and special characteristics of the land. The vines, planted with Sangiovese from meticulous local selections, are cared for according to biodynamic principles and followed step by step, following the delicate balance of the soil and surrounding microclimate. A constant and painstaking effort, however, that pays off: the result, in fact, can all be tasted in the wines of Emilia-Romagna of the highest quality, the winery's true strength.
