TASTING NOTES

Rosso di Montalcino Poggio di Sotto is an characteristic expression of the Sangiovese grape, a red wine that can easily compete with rich Brunello wines. It is brick red in colour with garnet and purplish hints. With aromas of currants, raspberry, and cloves, it has a pleasant floral nuance. The most widely grown red grape variety on the peninsula, this grape is harvested upon ripening and undergoes spontaneous fermentation in wooden vats. The wine then remains in 30-hectolitre oak barrels for 24 months. It is allowed to rest in the bottle for a further six months before being sold. This wine is elegant and balanced on the palate, noble and driven by a refined tannin content. A wine which is quite reminiscent of its Burgundy cousins. It is a great wine to enjoy with roasts, grilled meats, and truffle-based dishes.
