This family-run winery dates back to the start of the century, when it was founded by Silvio Quintarelli in the municipality of Marano di Valpolicella. In the 1950s, Giuseppe, the youngest of Silvio’s sons, took over the running of the company in order to continue the family’s vineyard and winery tradition. Recioto della Valpolicella Classico is one of the winery’s distinctive wines: it is a sweet red wine obtained from the same grapes that are used for the production of Amarone but this wine, unlike Amarone, is sweet precisely because the alcoholic fermentation process is stopped in order to include the residual sugar within the must. Recioto A Roberto is dedicated to Roberto Ferrarini, a historic wine expert of the Quintarelli winery, who died in 2014. He played an essential part in the company’s development, having contributed to the elevation of Quintarelli’s undisputed style. The wine is created from a blend of Corvina, Rondinella, Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, and Croatina grapes. Once the grapes have finished ripening, they are harvested strictly by hand and are left to dry and age for 120 days. They are then aged further in Slavonian oak for five to six years. This Recioto by Quintarelli is ruby red in colour with garnet reflections. It has aromas of cherry, black cherry and currants. It is delicate on the palate, sweet but balanced, a work of art to savour with every single persistent and velvety sip. This sweet wine is perfect to enjoy on important occasions and goes well with fresh or mature cow’s cheeses. It will win over the taster with its immense drinkability.
