TASTING NOTES

Primitivo is one of the most ancient varieties in Puglia. A firmly structured, pleasant and fruity wine, an early grape variety but with important residual sugar. A relative of the American Zinfandel, it is a DOC mainly produced in the province of Taranto. Polvanera 17 is a monovarietal Primitivo vinified in the Montevella and Acquaviva delle Fonti vineyards, where the soils are deep and rich in silt and limestone. The vines are bush-trained and over 70 years old. The grapes are harvested by hand, macerated for more than four weeks then fermented for a fortnight in stainless steel. The wine ages for 24 months in stainless steel and one year in the bottle. Polvanera's Primitivo is an intense ruby red wine that flows in the glass with character and elegance. A bouquet of roses, blackberries, tea leaves, and that biting smoky, liquorice note. The palate is austere, imposing and firmly structured, with precise and sustained tannins. A fragrant, full-bodied southern red that packs a punch without effort. It goes well with grilled meats, stewed meats, savoury risottos as well as with cured meats or cheeses. A taste of the southern Mediterranean to be savoured in good company, which also offers surprises over time. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Polvanera

Along one of the most suggestive paths of the Cinque Terre, from the Possaitara Valley to Canneto, there is the Possa farm, owned by Heydi Samuele Bonanini. In this landscape all the agronomic processes are long, tiring and complicated, characteristics that are reflected in the unique and highly original wines, which tell the story of a heroic challenge made of sacrifices, willpower and tradition. Name and address manufacturer/distributor: Azienda Agricola Possa - Via S. Antonio, 72 - 19017 Riomaggiore (SP) - Italia. The products of this cellar should be stored in a cool and dry place away from heat sources.
