TASTING NOTES

Production

The history of the Marchesi di Barolo estate began over 200 years ago right in the heart of the municipality of Barolo, in the palace opposite the Castello dei Marchesi Falletti. The estate’s origins are closely linked to the birth of the ‘King of Wines’, Barolo. In 1864, with the passing of the last member of the Falletti dynasty, the winery passed to the Opera Pia Barolo, a charitable organisation that channelled the proceeds from the wine into charitable works. Subsequently, in 1929, the Abbona family purchased the entire estate, which today comprises around 200 hectares of vineyards spread across the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato regions. The estate’s finest vineyards are vinified individually. The grapes used to produce the Moscato d’Asti DOCG Zagara come from vineyards cultivated on steeply sloping hillsides, which allow the bunches to ripen perfectly. Organoleptic Characteristics

This is a sweet white wine from Piedmont made entirely from Moscato grapes, offering very fine, persistent bubbles and a bright straw-yellow colour in the glass. The bouquet is typical and rich in aromatic notes: candied citrus peel, peach, hawthorn and orange blossom. On the palate, it is fresh and lively, characterised by a low alcohol content that makes it refreshing and easy to drink.

Occasion and Pairing

The ideal companion for a Sunday afternoon tea with dry or leavened pastries.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 10–12°C.

THE WINERY

Marchesi di Barolo

The foundation of the ancient cellars of the Marchesi di Barolo dates back about two centuries, in the Falletti castle in Barolo, in the heart of Piedmont. Since then, passion and love for viticulture have shaped the history of the finest Piedmont wines, and the winery itself has become one of the most important points of reference in the entire region. The winery stands among the gentle hills of the Langhe, dotted with vineyards and cultivations, where Barolo itself is born. From its very beginning, the winery’s mission has been to enhance the unique properties of the soil, in order to offer the very best of Piedmont in every glass. The origin of the grapes is highly varied: part comes from the winery’s own vineyards, and part from selected growers, chosen over many years of activity with an eye to the location of the vineyards and their individual cultivation expertise. In total, the estate now manages about 120 hectares of vineyards. Careful and consistent work among the native vines of the Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato leads to a truly unique final result. Discover the selection of Marchesi di Barolo wines and bring the excellence of the Langhe directly to your table.
