Gaja’s Langhe Bianco Gaja & Rey is produced from vineyards in the municipality of Barbaresco, planted with Chardonnay and cultivated on calcareous-clay soils that impart finesse and elegance. It is one of the great Burgundy-inspired Italian whites. Harvesting is done by hand, with careful selection of the bunches. Vinification involves fermentation and ageing in oak barriques, some of which are new, with extended contact on the lees, which imparts complexity, structure and the ability to evolve over time. Further ageing in the bottle completes the wine’s balance.
Visually, it presents an intense straw-yellow colour with golden highlights. On the nose, it is broad and refined, with aromas of yellow-fleshed fruit, ripe apple and peach, accompanied by notes of citrus, white flowers, vanilla, hazelnut and subtle mineral undertones. On the palate, it is rich and enveloping, with a substantial structure supported by fresh acidity and great precision of flavour. The finish is long, elegant and persistent, with fruity and mineral notes.
A white wine of great prestige and longevity, ideal for special occasions and high-level tastings. It pairs beautifully with substantial fish dishes, premium shellfish, refined white meats, complex risottos and medium-aged cheeses.
To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 10–12°C.
