TASTING NOTES

The Vie de Romans winery is a historical winery located in Mariano del Friuli and one of the most representative in the region. Led by Gianfranco Gallo since 1978, it stands out for its profound knowledge of the terroir and the close link to the area. With great attention and care, Gianfranco Gallo carries on together with the tradition of bold and innovative winemaking choices. With the restructuring of the wine cellar in 1990, all the white wines began to be sold two years after the harvest. The grapes express their potential to the fullest thanks above all to the effect of the continental winds from the east, known as the Bora, which reach the Soča plateau from Slovenia and allow a good temperature range and slow ripening of the grapes. This White Friulian wine is produced entirely from Chardonnay grapes from the Ciampagnis Vieris vineyard, which is characterised by a large clay component and distinctive reddish reflections due to the presence of iron and aluminium. Fermented in stainless steel to allow the grapes to express their terroir in the most authentic way, then left to rest on lees for six months with regular pumping over to give it personality and body. The wine ends its journey after an eleven-month bottle ageing period. Brilliant straw yellow in colour, on the nose it has hints of white-fleshed fruit and jasmine with touches of wild herbs. Notes of white peach, lemon and grapefruit together with tropical fruit. On the palate, it is fresh and savoury, dry and endowed with enveloping softness and creaminess and a good length and minerality. Excellent as an aperitif but also as a pairing with grilled fish and shellfish dishes. To be uncorked with friends on hot summer days, Ciampagnis will succeed in conveying all the oenological art of the Vie di Romans winery concentrated in one of the most interesting expressions of Chardonnay in northern Italy. To be drunk immediately but also ideal after a few years in the wine cellar. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Vie di Romans

For almost a century, the Gallo family has dedicated itself to the world of wine in the Friuli Isonzo DOC zone. The turning point came with Gianfranco, who took over the family business in 1978 and in little more than 10 years made courageous and revolutionary choices for the time that would prove to be successful and visionary. The investments in the valorisation of individual vineyards and cultivated varieties, the decision to extend the ageing of all wines beyond 12 months and to go on the market 2 years later. All countertrend choices, which 30 years later have proved successful and relevant. After the first bottling in 1978, other important milestones in the progress of Vie di Romans followed, including the construction of a new winery and the separate vinification of grapes according to their areas of origin. The Gallo family's wines preserve the expression and uniqueness of the Friulian terroir, the vineyards show little diversity due to the climate and physical and naturalel factors that act on the soil and determine its characteristics. Name and address of producer/distributor: Vie di Romans - Loc. Vie di Romans, 1, 34070 Mariano del Friuli (GO). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
