TASTING NOTES

The history of the Marchesi di Barolo company began more than 200 years ago, right in the heart of the municipality of Barolo, in the building opposite the Marchesi Falletti Castle. The origins of the estate are strongly linked to the birth of Barolo, the king of wines. In 1864, with the death of the last member of the Falletti dynasty, the cellar passed into the hands of Opera Pia Barolo, a charity that sank the proceeds from the sale of wine into charitable works. The whole estate, which now includes 200 hectares of vineyards between Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, was subsequently bought by the Abbona family in 1929. The winery’s best vineyards are vinified individually. The grapes of this Gavi DOCG come from vineyards grown on medium-slope hills and, in order to maintain and enhance the characteristics of the wine, all the grape processing operations take place within the production area. It is a Piedmontese white wine made exclusively with Cortese grapes which ages on the lees in stainless steel for just a few months. This gives it greater structure and an ability to evolve well in the bottle, even for a few years. It is straw yellow in colour, with light greenish reflections. On the nose, it expresses intense fruit-infused notes of golden apple, slight hints of citrus peel, cedar, almond, followed by clear floral references of orange blossom and chamomile. In the mouth it is extremely pleasant, soft and with a full flavour that makes it very drinkable. The wine has good length. An everyday wine, perfect with fish starters, raw or cooked, and seafood first courses. Pairing with fresh cheeses and soft pasts also works well. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Marchesi di Barolo

The foundation of the ancient wine cellars of the Marchesi di Barolo dates back two centuries, in the Falletti castle in Barolo, in the heart of Piedmont. Since then, passion and love for wine growing have marked the history of the finest Piedmontese wines, and the winery itself has managed to become one of the most important landmarks in the entire region. The winery is located among the gentle hills of the Langhe, dotted with vines and cultivations, where Barolo itself is born. Since it was founded, the winery's aim has been to enhance the unique properties of the soil in order to offer the best of Piedmont in every glass. The grapes come from a wide variety of sources, partly from their own vineyards and partly from winegrowers who have been selected over many years, favouring the location of the vineyards and individual cultivation skills. In tutto, oggi l'azienda controlla circa 120 ettari di vigneto. Careful and constant work among the autochthonous vines of the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato leads to an absolutely unique end result. Name and address of producer/distributor: Marchesi di Barolo - via Roma, 1 - 12060 Barolo (CN). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
