TASTING NOTES

Production

The history of Tasca d’Almerita in Sicily is written in the land it has tended and passed down for eight generations. The entire range of wines produced by Tasca d’Almerita consistently achieves the highest quality, combining refinement, terroir and typically Sicilian expressiveness. The Chardonnay Vigna San Francesco is a Sicilian white wine made exclusively from 100% Chardonnay grapes. Chardonnay is a very early-ripening variety and in Regaleali it usually reaches maturity between late August and early September. The soil has a normal organic matter content and is rich in minerals, particularly magnesium and potassium, with a good supply of phosphorus. The vines are trained on espaliers, using the double Guyot system. Fermentation takes place in 350-litre French oak barriques, with daily bâtonnage for the first 10–15 days whilst the skins remain in contact with the wine; this is then carried out weekly for the remaining 8 months of ageing in small oak. Organoleptic Characteristics

It is golden yellow in colour; on the nose, it is an explosion of yellow-fleshed fruit, exotic fruits, banana, citron, pineapple, and sweet spices such as cinnamon, vanilla, white pepper and honey. On the palate, it is rich and intense, complex, harmonious and with a very long finish.

Occasion and Pairing

It is perfect for a Sunday lunch and paired with cheeses.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 12–14°C.

THE WINERY

Tasca d'Almerita

The history of the Tasca d'Almerita winery has its roots in the 19th century, when brothers Lucio and Carmelo Mastrogiovanni Tasca purchased 1,200 hectares in the Regaleali district in Sicily. Even then, techniques considered cutting-edge not only in the Sicilian wine scene but throughout Italy were being used. The immense winemaking heritage, handed down for eight generations, is now under the leadership of Alberto and Giuseppe Tasca, who carry on the winery always respecting tradition but with an eye to the future. Each of the five estates belonging to the Tasca d'Almerita estate is managed with extreme care and rigor, thanks to the support of a conspicuous team of collaborators. What makes Tasca d'Almerita's wines so special is the vast spread of its vineyards between the island of Salina, land of Mavasia, across to the slopes of Mount Etna. These are some of the most beautiful places in Sicily, and also the most dedicated to wine production. Terroirs with different characteristics ensure that each of the different labels of red and white have distinctive notes, which are recognised and appreciated worldwide. Name and address of producer/distributor: Tasca d'Almerita - Via dei Fiori, 13, 90129 Palermo (PA). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
