TASTING NOTES

Production

Biondi Santi’s Brunello di Montalcino represents the most authentic and historic expression of this great wine, made exclusively from Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello) grapes grown in the estate’s own vineyards on the hills of Montalcino. The vines, some of which are very old, are cultivated using traditional methods with low yields. Harvesting is done by hand and vinification follows classic methods, with spontaneous fermentation and long maceration on the skins. Ageing is extremely long and takes place in large Slavonian oak barrels, where the wine matures slowly, developing elegance, complexity and extraordinary ageing potential, in full accordance with the Biondi Santi style.

Organoleptic Characteristics

On the nose, it is refined, deep and constantly evolving, with aromas of ripe cherry, dried violet and small red berries, followed by notes of aromatic herbs, spices, tobacco and light balsamic and earthy nuances. On the palate, it is austere and elegant, with fine, well-defined tannins, a vibrant freshness and a harmonious structure that leads to a long, persistent and refined finish. A wine of great balance and longevity.

Occasion and Pairing

An iconic and highly prestigious wine, ideal for special occasions and dedicated tastings. It pairs perfectly with traditional Tuscan dishes such as roasts, braised meats, game, elaborate red meats and long-aged cheeses.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C.

Allergens: Solfiti

THE WINERY

Biondi Santi

In the area of Montalcino and Pienza in the province of Siena, is the Biondi Santi winery, on the Tenuta Greppo estate. In an area known worldwide for its fine Tuscan red wines, Biondi Santi stands out for its Brunello, which has been produced, innovated and improved since the 19th century. After Clemente Santi started winemaking thanks studying the Sangiovese Grosso typical of the area, the winery still remains closely linked to its origins and history, recognised internationally for the production of sophisticated, elegant and refined wines. All while paying the utmost attention to organic and sustainable viticulture. With 25 hectares of vineyards, the estate produces no more than 80,000 bottles a year, including 10,000 of Brunello Riserva. The prestige of these Tuscan wines is influenced by many factors. Only the best grapes are selected, from vineyards that are at least 10 years old - and 25 years old for the Riserva. After being harvested completely by hand, the grapes are destemmed, crushed and fermented, which takes place at a controlled temperature in cement vats and tanks. Finally, the wine ages in oak barrels and is bottled no less than four years after harvest. Name and address of producer/distributor: Biondi Santi - Villa Greppo, 183, 53024 Montalcino - Siena - Italia. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
