TASTING NOTES

Production

After the harvest and fermentation in stainless steel, the wine rests for 24 months in large barrels, with part of it aged in French oak barriques, followed by further bottle aging. The result is a Tuscan red wine of great character and intensity.

Organoleptic Characteristics

This Brunello presents in the glass with an intense and brilliant ruby red color, revealing fruity and floral notes that emerge alongside elegantly toasted sensations of vanilla and balsamic hints of eucalyptus. On the palate, it reflects the austere and deep character of a well-crafted Brunello, bringing us back to the aromas perceived on the nose, while adding a lively yet sweet and refined tannin that leads to a finish of surprising freshness.

Occasion and Pairing

A wine to enjoy during special meals, paired with robust yet elegant meat dishes, such as wild boar stew with juniper, or more generally with aged cheeses.

THE WINERY

Castiglion del Bosco

With its fine Tuscan wines, Castiglion del Bosco is a landmark on the Italian wine scene and one of Italy's leading producers of Brunello di Montalcino. Set like a jewel in the heart of the Val d'Orcia, the winery is one of the founding members of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino. Its unusual position on the slopes of a hill, almost hidden from view, makes it the ideal place to get the best from the grapes grown in the vineyards of Castiglion del Bosco and Riparbella. The production process itself tells the story of nature and the human intervention that respects its space and balance: the bunches of grapes are subjected to an initial selection while still in the vineyard, then roll along two sorting tables, where well-trained eyes make a further selection on the best grapes. The berries are then transferred by gravity to the 100-150 hl tanks on the lower level, of a suitable size for the separate fermentation of the grapes from the different vineyards. At the end of the fermentation phase, the wines are transferred to the large, temperature-controlled basement area, where barriques and French oak barrels can be found. The ageing process continues with maturation in the bottle, which, depending on the wine, can last from 6 to 36 months before being released for consumption. The winery is managed by Cecilia Leoneschi, who has been in charge of it since 2003, the year she arrived in Castiglion del Bosco.
