TASTING NOTES

This Brunello di Montalcino is made from grapes from a single plot of land rich in clay and galestro, Capanna Vineyard, where the exposure of vines to the south-west and excellent ventilation, together with a large temperature range between day and night, guarantee the perfect maturation. After harvesting and fermentation in steel, the wine rests for 24 months in large barrels and partly in French oak barrels, before further aging in the bottle. The result is a vino rosso toscano of great character and intensity. This Brunello is presented in the glass with an intense and brilliant ruby red color, revealing to the nose fruity and floral notes that emerge between elegantly toasted sensations of vanilla and balsamic sensations of eucalyptus. The mouthfeel reflects the austere and deep character of Brunello wines of excellent quality, bringing us back to the aromas perceived to the nose, adding a lively but sweet and refined tannins that accompanies us towards a finish of surprising freshness. Wine to be enjoyed in important lunches, in combination with meat preparations with a strong but elegant character, such as a wild boar stew with juniper or more generally with mature cheeses. To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a serving temperature of 16/18 ºC. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Castiglion del Bosco

With its fine Tuscan wines, Castiglion del Bosco is a landmark on the Italian wine scene and one of Italy's leading producers of Brunello di Montalcino. Set like a jewel in the heart of the Val d'Orcia, the winery is one of the founding members of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino. Its unusual position on the slopes of a hill, almost hidden from view, makes it the ideal place to get the best from the grapes grown in the vineyards of Castiglion del Bosco and Riparbella. The production process itself tells the story of nature and the human intervention that respects its space and balance: the bunches of grapes are subjected to an initial selection while still in the vineyard, then roll along two sorting tables, where well-trained eyes make a further selection on the best grapes. The berries are then transferred by gravity to the 100-150 hl tanks on the lower level, of a suitable size for the separate fermentation of the grapes from the different vineyards. At the end of the fermentation phase, the wines are transferred to the large, temperature-controlled basement area, where barriques and French oak barrels can be found. The ageing process continues with maturation in the bottle, which, depending on the wine, can last from 6 to 36 months before being released for consumption. The winery is managed by Cecilia Leoneschi, who has been in charge of it since 2003, the year she arrived in Castiglion del Bosco. Name and address of producer/distributor: Castiglion del Bosco - Località, 53024 Castiglion del Bosco SI. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
