TASTING NOTES

Talking about the Oddero family is similar to taking a journey through time and the history of Langhe. Present in La Morra since at least the 18th century, through documentary sources the winery has managed to go back to the second decade of the 19th century, demonstrating that the ancestors Giovanni Battista Oddero and his sons Lorenzo and Luigi already produced wine in that municipality. The first acknowledgments for this winery date back to the early 1900s when their Barolo took part in a wine tasting at the International Exhibition in Turin. Throughout the last century the family not only successfully gained prestigious awards but also managed to raise the bar of quality up to today’s products, obtained from grapes from the best crus of the area. In 2011, the turning point came with the organic conversion of the vineyard, aimed at preserving what then became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2014. They currently own around 35 hectares of property and production stands at about 100,000 bottles a year. Oddero’s Barolo Villero is a Piedmontese red made with 100% Nebbiolo grapes from the cru of the same name, located in Castiglione Falletto at an altitude of around 250 metres in clay soils. Fermentation with contact on the skins lasts about a month. The wine then ages in large 40 hl oak barrels for 30 months before bottling. This is followed by ageing for 1 year in bottles. Beautiful ruby red in colour, the nose is elegant and refined, with characteristic notes of violets and red fruits wrapped up with the spices typical of the grape, such as pepper, liquorice and tobacco. In the mouth it is deep and complex, but not austere. Persistent aromas and dense tannic texture. A wine for special occasions, it is perfect paired with braised red meats or game. THE WINERY

Oddero

The Poderi e Cantine Oddero company dates back to the end of the 18th century. In fact, several documents attest to the fact that the Oddero family was already cultivating its own vineyards in the hamlet of Santa Maria di La Morra. Giacomo Oddero, an important name among wine producers in Piedmont, skilfully organised his business before leaving it in the hands of his daughter Mariacristina and grandchildren Isabella and Pietro. Representing the seventh generation of winegrowers, they now run the company with the same love for tradition as the founding fathers, but with an eye on progress. The 35 hectares of Poderi Oddero stand on a natural terrace set against the backdrop of the Langhe hills, a World Heritage Site. Oddero's vineyards, where no chemical herbicides are ever used, are rooted in clay-limestone soil, yielding grapes that express the essence of the terroir from which they come and from which they make excellent wines, mostly red. Inside the Oddero winery, an old farmhouse beside a more modern building equipped with advanced oenological technology, only natural yeasts are used for environmentally friendly production. Important labels are therefore obtained, including Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo, Dolcetto d'Alba, Barbera d'Alba, Barbera d'Asti and Moscato, examples of the perfect combination of respect for tradition, passion and continuous innovation. Name and address of producer/distributor: Oddero - Frazione S. Maria, 28, 12064 La Morra (CN). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
