Giacomo Conterno’s Barolo Vigna Francia comes from the vineyard of the same name, situated in the municipality of Serralunga d’Alba, one of the most prestigious crus in the Langhe. The grapes are exclusively Nebbiolo, sourced from historic vineyards cultivated with low yields and great agronomic rigour. Harvesting is done by hand and takes place at full ripeness. Vinification follows the winery’s traditional method: spontaneous fermentation with long maceration on the skins in wooden vats, without any corrective interventions. Ageing takes place for several years in large oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop structure, elegance and a deep sense of terroir, whilst maintaining a more direct and defined style compared to the Monfortino.
On the nose, it is intense and precise, with aromas of ripe red fruits, cherry and raspberry, accompanied by floral notes of rose and violet. This is followed by hints of spices, liquorice, tobacco and subtle mineral nuances. On the palate, it is powerful yet harmonious, with firm, well-defined tannins, a lively freshness and a long, consistent flavour progression. The finish is persistent, elegant and deeply expressive of the cru.
A wine of great structure and character, ideal for special occasions and formal lunches or dinners. It pairs perfectly with red meat dishes, roasts, braised meats, game and long-aged cheeses.
To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C.
