TASTING NOTES

Production

Sarmassa faces south-east, on a steep hillside. Here, a Piedmontese red wine made from Nebbiolo is produced, which undergoes a maturation period of nearly 5 years, partly in small barrels and partly in large casks, before finishing its maturation in the cellar in the bottle before being released onto the market.

Organoleptic Characteristics

Barolo Sarmassa presents itself to the eye with a brilliant, transparent garnet colour. On the nose, it offers delicate initial notes of rose and aromatic herbs, before developing into an aromatic intensity that shifts towards balsamic and spicy sensations, all against a backdrop of sweet tobacco and liquorice. On the palate, it is a splendid blend of power and elegance, acidity and savouriness, with a noble tannic structure that carries the wine towards a long finish.

Occasion and Pairing

A wine for Sunday lunch; pair it with a fine roast and you’ll be in heaven.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C.

THE WINERY

Marchesi di Barolo

The foundation of the ancient cellars of the Marchesi di Barolo dates back about two centuries, in the Falletti castle in Barolo, in the heart of Piedmont. Since then, passion and love for viticulture have shaped the history of the finest Piedmont wines, and the winery itself has become one of the most important points of reference in the entire region. The winery stands among the gentle hills of the Langhe, dotted with vineyards and cultivations, where Barolo itself is born. From its very beginning, the winery’s mission has been to enhance the unique properties of the soil, in order to offer the very best of Piedmont in every glass. The origin of the grapes is highly varied: part comes from the winery’s own vineyards, and part from selected growers, chosen over many years of activity with an eye to the location of the vineyards and their individual cultivation expertise. In total, the estate now manages about 120 hectares of vineyards. Careful and consistent work among the native vines of the Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato leads to a truly unique final result. Discover the selection of Marchesi di Barolo wines and bring the excellence of the Langhe directly to your table. Producer/distributor name and address: Marchesi di Barolo - Via Roma, 1 - 12060 Barolo (CN). The products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
